The Southampton Communities Team will be taking part in Policy Day on June 13th through an online live chat for anyone who wants to ask the team a question around Policy or community or voluntary work in Southampton. Sessions will take place in the morning from 11.30-12.30 and 1.30-2.30pm.

The first session will include questions on policy and why community groups need policies, what policies they should have in place and how they adapt them to make them relevant to their group. The second session will focus more on community grants; why do grant applications often need to be submitted with the group’s policies and about the grant giving policy itself, why it is as it is.

People will be able to ask questions on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/southamptonscommunities and join in the existing discussion. They will also be able to pose questions via Twitter @SouthamptonsCom for the first session and @SouthamptonFund for the second grants session, both will use the #sotonpolicy hashtag.

In addition to this www.southampton.gov.uk/communityresourcesv will release templates, how to guides and model policies local community groups can access and use to help their community group grow.

To coincide with Small Charity Week the world’s streets will resound with music as buskers everywhere turn out to entertain the local crowds and raise money for Musequality from 11th-17th June. This year’s theme is ‘Extreme Busking’. eg. The Highest/Lowest Altitude Busk, deepest busk -underwater? Can you beat the Rothera Research Station’s furthest south busking record in Antarctica? Can you beat the aircraft carrier, HMS Illustrious, busk of 2009?

Musequality is a social-change charity, founded in Chiswick in 2007, that supports music education projects for children from disadvantaged and marginalised communities in South Africa, Uganda, Thailand, and India. The charity works with street children, orphans, children who are disabled or have special needs, children at risk, and those whose futures are compromised simply because they were born into poverty.

Musequality encourages a wide variety of music in its projects, with particular emphasis on the local musical culture and communal music-making. Children involved in these projects have an opportunity to regain their self-respect, rebuild their confidence and develop life-skills that will lead to better futures for themselves and their communities.

Linked to Celebration Day The International Fire & Rescue Association (IFRA) are hosting The Flame Awards on Friday 15th June.

The purpose of the community day is to invite year 6 pupils from primary schools throughout the Wrexham area and give them the necessary life skills and awareness they need before they move on to High School in September. Throughout the day the children will be involved in workshops with IFRA (learning about fire safety), Humanutopia (learning about the influences of others, peer pressure and the conformity of others), The British Red Cross (First Aid) and North Wales Police relating to community social responsibility. We also hope the Wrexham Community Day will help to raise the profile of the International Fire & Rescue Association charity and The Flame Awards.

There will be a Fire Engine available for the children to explore as well as an event unit staffed by members of IFRA as well as other fun activities for the children to be involved with and we will also be launching; Fire Safety with Fire Fighter Davie interactive children’s workbooks. Everyone who attends will receive a copy of the community day programme which highlights the day’s events, advertisers, local editoriall, sponsors, partners and the timetable for the workshops. Please see www.theflameawards.co.uk/wrexham-community-day/ or call Paul or Chris on 0800 958 9911 and you can also follow us @theflameawards and like our Facebook Page.

Jo is walking 26 miles around Thrybergh Country Park in Rotherham for a local Charity which supports people with learning disabilities and Autism.

Jo has Autism and has a keen interest in walking. He has been doing a Charity walk every year nor for 2 years and it has been a great success.

This year as part of Fundraising Day, Jo is doing the walk to raise money for a local Charity called Speakup. The Charity supports people with learning disabilities and Autism to speak for themselves, helps them to gain skills, supports them to live full and inclusive lives and also provides employment opportunities.

People can donate on the day at Thrybergh Country Park or by using the JustGiving text to donate service:

To donate text GOJO14 followed by either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.

We hope everyone can support Jo and Speakup with this fantastic Charity walk. Go Jo!!
