Day 3

Policy Day

In 2010, Policy Day saw small charity delegates meeting policymakers at a reception at the House of Commons hosted by Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society.

Building on the success of that event, Policy Day 2011 will feature a series of policy events across the country. We are working with both national and local governments to facilitate a series of events at which small charities will be able to have dialogue with policy makers. These events will include a reception at Westminster, as well as policy forums at Town Halls across the country. The Small Charity Week team will be liaising with Town Halls and the Local Government Association to promote the event.

Policy Day will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about and contribute to the policy process. The FSI will be launching our Public Policy Toolkit which has tips and guidance for small charities that want to influence public policy.

Westminster Event

The Policy Day Westminster event will be held at Portcullis House, Westminster at 5:30pm on Wednesday June 22nd. This event will be hosted by Dr Roberta Blackman-Woods, Labour MP and Shadow Minister for Civil Society and is being supported by our corporate partners at Giles Insurance Brokers. Present at the event will be Ministers, Members of Parliament from all sides, as well as members of the press and policy makers.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to have your voice heard. There are limited places at this event so make sure you don’t miss out by applying to policyevent@smallcharityweek.com.

Get Involved

Other ways that you can get involved with Policy Day, include:

  • Write to your local MP to introduce your charity or invite them to visit your office and see the work you undertake.  We are developing a tool to help you find your local MP and details of how to introduce yourself and your charity.
  • Learn more about petitions and other opportunities to influence public policy.
  • Formulate your own policy document – get your staff, trustees and service-users together to discuss the ways that public policy impact your work and how better policy would lead to positive social outcomes.
